We take a holistic approach to better ensure the long-term outcome of your oral health and at every appointment, we will fully assess the health of your teeth, mouth and general health.
General dentistry refers to the majority of the treatments we perform on a daily basis and covers everything from fillings to extractions. Below we have summarised some of our most common treatments.
We are an amalgam-free practice and have been for many years. Amalgam is the metal filling material that many patients have had over the years. At Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre, we believe in providing restorations in teeth that are not only beautiful but also promote better overall dental health. For this reason, we use only composite (white) fillings for our patients.
Whilst many patients opt to have amalgam fillings replaced for aesthetic reasons, there is also often a benefit to the long-term health of the teeth in doing so. For example, it is common for older amalgam fillings to fracture and leak, which in turn can lead to cracks in teeth.
There are a number of solutions available when a patient has a dental issue, such as a chipped tooth or broken filling. At TWDC we believe it is important to discuss all the possible options with you so that together we can make the choice that is right for you.
Examples of aesthetic restorations include:
Root canal treatments can be a technically challenging treatment, but should never be uncomfortable for the patient. It involves placing a filling in the root of a tooth and normally requires a crown to protect the tooth in the long term.
At TWDC we use the most up to date equipment to achieve the best results and carry out all root canal treatments using a specialist microscope and a rubber dam.
It is our job to help you hold on to every tooth as long as possible, but there are times when the best option available involves having a tooth removed. Before having a tooth extracted we will discuss all the options for replacing a tooth with you, such as bridges, implants or dentures.
Here at the Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre, we believe in pain-free dentistry and this is particularly the case when it comes to dental extractions. With the right level of anaesthetic and care, having a tooth out should be a painless experience.
For those patients who find the idea of having a tooth extracted particularly daunting, we also offer sedation.
There are a great many reasons to replace a missing tooth or teeth other than to restore your smile. Missing teeth can lead to further oral health issues, and where teeth are missing other teeth will be taking more of the load which can ultimately cause damage to them long-term.
There are normally a number of options for replacing missing teeth, including bridges, dentures and implants.
Bridges are false teeth which are cemented in place with the help of a neighbouring tooth. These can be a great aesthetic option when a single tooth is missing.
Dentures are more suitable when multiple teeth are missing. We work with the best laboratories using the finest materials to create dentures which feel comfortable and look beautiful.
More and more people are choosing to replace missing teeth with implants. Read more about implants here.
